01
Separate handcrafting from workbench blueprints
Handcrafting combines field materials such as wood and stone into immediate utility items. Workbench crafting consumes a found blueprint and scrap to produce the item previewed at the bench. A material combination is not interchangeable with a blueprint recipe.
| System | Inputs | Station | Output |
|---|---|---|---|
| Handcrafting | Field materials such as wood and stone | Direct field combination | Basic tools and utility |
| Workbench | Blueprint plus displayed scrap cost | Workbench preview and confirmation | The named blueprint item |
02
Read a handcrafting recipe in three parts
For each current recipe, verify material A, material B, and the resulting item in the linked crafting reference or in game before consuming the materials. Then ask whether that output solves a near-term need such as a basic weapon, a tool, or defensive utility.
- Confirm both inputs before combining
- Craft for the coming day or night rather than for inventory completion
- Re-check old recipe lists after balance or content changes
03
Compare immediate utility with scrap flexibility
Scrapping converts found value into a flexible workbench resource, but crafting too early can lock that value into an item the team cannot support. Keep enough flexibility for medicine, ammunition plans, traps, and a later blueprint that fills a clearer gap.
Perk-specific crafting advantages, including Prophet-related considerations described by community references, should be checked against the current in-game perk text before calculating an exact saving.
04
Move weapon evaluation to the blueprint guide
Use this page to identify the crafting system, inputs, and timing. Use the blueprint weapons guide for firearm, melee, and bow role decisions so a recipe lookup does not become an unsupported balance ranking.
